Explain what the course is about; provide a overview of your course with coherent information for your students; give details of the background of the subject: the prior knowledge the students should have and the overall aims of the course.

This course consists of developing a Plant Design and the different steps to do it are spread over the weeks. During different weeks you and a fellow students have to present those different steps and include them in your group report. In the end of the quarter you should submit your group report and schedule an individual oral exam.

The design projects must be executed in groups of 2 persons.

In the project a quality problem at a treatment plant has to be solved.

Firstly, a general study must be made about the solution of the problem (which processes are possible, how can they be incorporated in the treatment and make a choice of a process). After presentation of the solution, the project can be further elaborated. The final result is a pre-design in which is indicated how the problem can be tackled. The schemes and drawings have to be presented in the pre-design report. After the approval of the report, each student individually will discuss it in an oral examination.
