Setting your course as active or inactive for student access

A course that is Inactive is not visible for students. Set the course to Active before the semester starts and it will become visible to students.

You cannot email your students from an inactive course. Students receive no notifications/announcements from an inactive course.

A new course that is created is always set to inactive. This means that students cannot see any content in it, they cannot access the course, they cannot perform any interaction with your materials. This is great if you are just developing the course. But about a week before the semester starts, you want to set your course as being active, so students can access it again.

Click on the + for a full set of steps to change the course to active.

  1. Click on Course Admin and then Course Offering Information. As you scroll down within Course Offering Information you will find the checkbox to set the course as active.
  2. Select the Checkbox and click Save. Now students will be able to access your course.
For courses available for self-enrollment via the Course Catalog, it can take up to 4 hours before the course becomes visible in the Course Catalog.

To set the course to inactive the same steps should be followed as ‘Set Course to Active’ however instead of checking the active checkbox this should be unchecked.
